Our Curriculum
The Michigan World Languages Curriculum has been designed so that our students will obtain the necessary tools to gain some level of proficiency in a language other than English. There are five areas of study, which include:
· Communication
listening, reading, speaking, writing
· Culture
practices and products
· Connections
previous knowledge and point of view
· Comparisons
to other languages and cultures
· Communities
recognizing language outside of the classroom
Additionally, we use ACTFL's (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) 'Can-Do' statements as guidelines for what we aim to teach our Spanish learners. By the end of fifth grade, students should be able to successfully produce and perform content and language objectives at the Novice-Mid level.
Areas of Study
Over the course of the year, the students will learn vocabulary words based on the following topics:
--greetings & polite words
--colors
--numbers

--classroom objects
--family
--animals
--body parts
